Hitch one or two dogs behind a light-weight, Finnish-made Esla kick sled and go faster by pushing the sled along with your feet.

The kick sled was originally meant for human power alone, but the folks at Canvasback Pet Supplies modified one for dog power, and the idea has really caught on with mushers who have one or two pet dogs. Prairie Dog Sled Supply also sells kick sleds, and some of our crafty club members have built their own sleds.

The kick sled line has an internal bungee to absorb shock, and a bridle that attaches it to the sled. Owners of larger dogs often prefer this over skijoring, as the sled provides more stability when turning. Dogs can wear an X-back or a weight-pull harness.
